I once painted a piece specifically for an annual exhibition held at a local venue. After the show, it didn’t sell, so I tucked it away in my attic, thinking I might eventually toss it out. For a while, it just sat there collecting dust—a forgotten artwork with no clear future.
Fast forward a year later, I decided to bring it back to the same exhibition, just to fill some space. To my surprise, a visitor saw it and instantly connected with it. She told me it depicted the very place where her daughter’s wedding was about to take place. She wanted to buy it as a gift for the bride—and she wanted it badly.
I couldn’t believe it. The painting I nearly trashed turned out to be something incredibly meaningful to someone else. Needless to say, I sold it—for a very good price! It was one of those unexpected, joyful moments that remind you why you keep creating and sharing your work.
Moral of the story? Don’t throw your art away. What feels forgotten or overlooked to you might be a perfect treasure to someone else. Art always has the potential to find its home—you just never know when.
